Love's Embrace

So often I hear the heartfelt cries of those longing to taste the scrumptiousness of a deep abiding love, to gaze into the eyes of their beloved, to dive deeply into the waters of Love’s ceaseless pool of yum, to feel the illumination, passion and aliveness that is carried upon the breeze of Love’s infinite breath.

It’s true. Love can be intoxicating and alluring as it whispers promises of connection and belonging, compassion and companionship, the playmate and best friend we’ve always wanted- the musical montage of happiness we’ve all dreamed of since Say Anything, Top Gun and Pride and Prejudice. (Deep sigh...) Damn you Hollywood!!

The truth is, in its purist form, love is alchemy. To be touched by the hand of love- be it by a friend, a lover, a teacher or a partner- is to be changed forever more. We cannot be completed by another (despite Jerry McQuire’s best efforts to make us believe otherwise), but rather it is through the great adventure of loving another that we get to experience ourselves more fully.

To experience such a love requires incredible courage - courage to tend lovingly to our unresolved wounds, courage and dedication to compassionately look at our triggers, and courage and devotion to lean in when our inclination is to tuck tail and run (whether outwardly or internally).

To step fully into the deliciousness of Love’s embrace, we must commit to truly loving fearlessly. This entails engaging our deepest inner work so that we might come to know ourselves as the very love we seek.
